Since May has been highlighted as national mental health awareness month I felt compelled to write about mental wellness today. Many are afraid to discuss this but it is just as important and physical wellness.
Those who have been diagnosed with various mental conditions often feel a need to hide it out of fear of ridicule yet more and more individuals are feeling a need to come out about various conditions to dismiss the myths which media can create around them. I tip my mad hattress hat to those who are doing this. I commend your bravery. Being an active artist I am subjected to the idea of that we are all "mad". As I see it we all have our stuff to deal with so why judge one another and why not support one another?
One of the best things we can do to keep mental health balanced is to make room for creativity. Sadly many tell me they are not creative... That is until they realize the depths of such. Some of us draw, write, make jewelry, scrapbook, garden, cook, or so many other wonderful things how about being the awesome house wife and mother who prides herself in having a lovely home for her family and really keeping those bonds of family strong. So many things; yet our creative is individual to us even if others are doing similar things. As no-one can do it just like we do and lets not let that worry us it is out awesome artistry that the world needs not a cheap imitation of someone else.
It is all about what the soul needs and it needs an outlet. Hence why many who are labeled as artists are called crazy or eccentric,... Because perhaps we use our talents as a way to let go of things. Or to feel good, or just cuz we can and we want to see how far we can take.
I know for myself that my creativity has been key in me getting through some really rough times in my life. So as Bill and Ted would say:"Be excellent to each other." And I will add nourish your soul how every you feel it.
